The incumbent Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mohammed Baantima Samba, has been re-elected to lead the party in the region.
Samba secured 215 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Amadu Inusah, who polled 122 votes out of the 387 votes cast. The other contestants in the chairmanship race, Musah Fuseini and Salifu Abdul Mumin, obtained 44 and five votes respectively.
Other executives elected were Ayamba Yelmagli as First Vice Chairman, Dr Abdul Rahman Karim Kpala as Regional Secretary, Bediako Jeremiah as Deputy Secretary and Husseini Abubakari Saddiq as Treasurer. Also elected were Hajia Suraiya Manan as Women's Organizer, Mohammed Ibrahim as Nasara Organizer, Salifu Abdul Rashid as Organizer, Yussif Danjuma as Communication Officer and Abdul Rahman Mahama as Second Vice Chairman.
Delivering his acceptance speech, Samba said the delegates had given him a clear mandate to continue steering the party's affairs in the region as it begins preparations for the 2028 general election. He thanked delegates for their confidence in his leadership, saying the victory came with a responsibility to work harder to strengthen the party and position it for success in the next election.
He said a strong, active grassroots structure would be critical to rebuilding the party's support base and securing more parliamentary seats in 2028.
Samba also stressed the importance of unity among party members, saying internal cohesion would be essential to achieving the NPP's electoral ambitions. He said he would work to bring together all factions and supporters, regardless of their differences, to present a united front ahead of the 2028 polls, and pledged to work with other regional and constituency executives, parliamentary candidates, grassroots supporters and other stakeholders to strengthen the party's prospects in the next election.
