Kofi Adams Declares He Won’t Hire or Fire Coaches Amid Black Stars’ Coaching Turmoil

Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams said he would not weigh in on the Black Stars’ coaching situation following the exit of former head coach Carlos Queiroz.

Queiroz resigned after Ghana’s disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with losses to Côte d’Ivoire and Gambia leaving the national side’s chances of reaching the tournament in doubt.

Adams told Joy FM that he is not the person to discuss the technical team’s appointments or dismissals. "I don’t hire coaches, and I don’t fire coaches," he said. "You can direct your questions about the firing of the coach to the body that needs to [address it]."

Ghana have won only one of their last eight matches across all competitions and have not secured an AFCON qualifying win since September 2023.

The minister’s comments come as the national team looks to decide on a new gaffer, with the next steps unclear and the pressure mounting from fans and stakeholders alike.
