The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has released a fresh list of 100 unrecognised universities as of August 28, 2026, citing quality assurance concerns.
In a public notice dated August 28, 2026, GTEC advised the public to exercise due diligence with regard to any certificates issued by the institutions named.
The list includes both foreign institutions and a number of Ghana-based ones. Among the Ghanaian entries are Debest College of Science, Arts and Business; Faith University Seminary (FUS); Doxa Open University; Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Training School; Quest International University; Kingdom Living Bible Institute in Kumasi; Global Professional College in Effiduase; OAA Consulting Limited in Kumasi; Competency School of Business Administration (COSBA) in Kumasi; and Global Executive College. Volta University College, listed with operations spanning both Ghana and Nigeria, also appears on the list.
The remaining 90-plus institutions are based abroad, spanning the United States, United Kingdom, India, Nigeria, Switzerland, Zambia, Liberia, Italy, Mexico, Costa Rica, Cambodia, Barbados, Hawaii, France, Ireland, Malta, Turkiye, Kenya, Germany, Guyana, Andorra and Cyprus, among others. They include names such as Atlantic International University (USA), Selinus University of Sciences and Literature (Italy), Swiss Management Centre University (Switzerland), Texila American University (Guyana), Akamai University (Hawaii), Kazian School of Management (India), West African Christian University (Nigeria) and Global Academy of Finance and Management (GAFM, USA).
GTEC did not provide further explanation of the specific quality assurance concerns tied to each individual institution in the notice, but the listing is intended to caution prospective students, employers and the general public against relying on qualifications issued by these entities without further verification.
