Surv. Emmanuel Kofi Cobbold, President of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS), announced that the Governing Council Bill, recently approved by the Cabinet, is slated to be presented to Parliament in its upcoming session. The bill, he said, will strengthen the Institution’s governance framework and is a priority for the organisation’s leadership.
Speaking at the 2026 Annual Conference of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors, Cobbold appealed for broad stakeholder backing to fast‑track the legislative process. He described the bill as a pivotal step toward solidifying the body’s governance structure.
Alongside the legislative push, GhIS is evaluating a major overhaul of its conference programme. The proposal would consolidate the various divisional conferences into one institutional service week, aiming to address employer concerns about workflow disruptions and the financial burden of sending staff to multiple events each year.
Cobbold noted that the 2026 divisional conferences might be the last under the current arrangement, with future activities potentially merged into a single, larger institutional event. The reorganisation is intended to streamline operations, reduce costs for employers and minimise the impact on workplace productivity.
The Institution is actively seeking support from stakeholders to implement these reforms while the Governing Council Bill moves toward parliamentary consideration.
