Ghana’s U17 side secured a 1‑0 victory over Togo in their opening Group A match of the 2026 WAFU Zone B Championship held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. David Kwarteng opened the scoring in the 7th minute, giving the Black Starlets all three points.

Despite the win, head coach Kassim Ocansey admitted the squad fell short in front of goal, saying, “We created good chances, but we couldn’t convert. I am happy we have the three points, but we could have done better with the chances we created.”

Ocansey remains optimistic about the team’s attacking potential, noting that improved finishing could see the Black Starlets net three or four goals in future games. He added, “If we are able to convert the chances we create, we can get three or four goals in every game. We’ll work on that ahead of our next game.”

The win gives Ghana a positive start to the tournament, but the coach is keen to address the finishing gaps as the team prepares to face Benin on Tuesday. The U17 side is also eyeing qualification for the 2027 U17 Africa Cup of Nations through this WAFU competition.
