During the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro confirmed plans to establish a chamber of commerce between the two nations. The initiative is intended to strengthen links between businesses, expand trade and create new investment opportunities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted on Facebook that the chamber will serve as a platform for Ghanaian and Philippine companies to engage, explore investment prospects and build commercial partnerships. Both sides also agreed to host business fora in Ghana and the Philippines to foster greater interaction between their private sectors.
Discussions also touched on labour mobility, with the two countries committing to share ideas and expertise on managing worker movement. Ablakwa welcomed the Philippines’ decision to open an embassy in Ghana later this year, calling it a significant development in the bilateral relationship.
The chamber is expected to launch in the coming months, with the first business forum scheduled for early 2027. Stakeholders anticipate that the partnership will open new markets and create jobs in both countries.
