At the Army Recruit Training School in Shai Hills, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) issued a stern warning to newly trained soldiers on Friday, September 25, 2026, during the passing‑out parade of 646 recruits from the Basic Infantry Training Course (BITC) 1‑26. Brigadier General Edward Awaribey, the Reviewing Officer and General Officer Commanding of the Southern Command, reminded the graduates that their military careers were just beginning and that discipline, integrity, courage, loyalty and professionalism were paramount.
General Awaribey cautioned the recruits against posting operational information, photographs or videos on social media in ways that could compromise military operations or bring the GAF into disrepute. He also warned them that wearing a military uniform did not exempt them from the Constitution or national laws, and that illicit drugs, prohibited substances and the misuse of uniforms for debt collection, land‑guard activities or other unauthorised duties were strictly forbidden.
The General urged the new soldiers to approach subsequent career courses with humility and determination, to be mindful of the company they kept, and to remember that friends or relatives could sometimes encourage misuse of their positions or uniforms. He emphasized that discipline and obedience to lawful orders would be critical if they were to participate in internal or international peace‑support operations.
During the ceremony, the recruits were led to swear the oath of allegiance. Several soldiers received awards for outstanding performance: Warrant Officer Class II Sarah Nyarkowaa Twum was named Best All‑Round Female Recruit, Warrant Officer Class II Stephen Atendana Solomba won Best Drill, and Warrant Officer Class I Ebenezer Akwasi Midorse was honoured as Overall Best Recruit. Kamina Company was adjudged Best Company after winning cross‑country and steeplechase competitions.
In closing, Brigadier General Awaribey commended instructors, staff and families for their support, and urged receiving units to continue guiding and mentoring the newly trained soldiers as they begin their service with pride and honour.
