The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has launched an aggressive enforcement campaign targeting staff extortion, soliciting, and passenger harassment across all airport facilities in the country.
The initiative follows a high-level stakeholder meeting held in Accra to address persistent complaints from travelers regarding unauthorized begging and bribe solicitation by airport personnel.

Key Anti-Extortion Measures Introduced

To restore discipline and protect Ghana's primary entry gateways, GACL agreed on three central enforcement mechanisms:

  1. Mystery Shopping Program: Undercover compliance checkers will monitor baggage areas, security checkpoints, and terminals to identify workers engaging in extortion.

  2. Immediate Termination & Airport Bans: Personnel caught soliciting money or gifts from travelers will face immediate disciplinary sanction and a permanent ban from working within airport precincts nationwide.

  3. Whistleblower Hotline: Passengers can directly report extortion attempts via phone, WhatsApp, or SMS using the newly dedicated line: 0542175636.

"This 'name and shame' and zero-tolerance approach is intended to eliminate unacceptable practices and reinforce strict accountability among all personnel operating at our airports," GACL said in an official statement.
