Ghana has commissioned a 6,000‑metric‑ton LPG storage terminal, a move that could significantly expand national storage capacity and improve the reliability of LPG supplies. The facility received its first delivery from MT Asharami Ghana and will serve as a critical node in the country’s downstream petroleum sector.
Energy Minister John Jinapor joined stakeholders from the sector to mark the inauguration. He said the investment is essential to achieving the government’s ambition of at least 50% LPG access by 2030. In a Facebook post, Mr Jinapor noted that expanding storage infrastructure would not only increase access to cleaner cooking fuel but also enhance energy security and resilience across the LPG supply chain.
The terminal was developed by Asharami Ghana, part of the Sahara Group. The minister highlighted that the project could generate opportunities across the wider petroleum value chain, including trading, logistics, transportation, distribution and related services. He praised the Sahara Group for their investment, describing the project as a step toward strengthening the infrastructure needed to support broader LPG access.
As Ghana continues to push for greater LPG adoption, the new terminal represents a tangible upgrade to the country’s fuel supply system, reinforcing efforts to provide cleaner cooking energy and bolster national energy resilience.
