Gender Ministry Visits Shelter for Four Girls Allegedly Abused by Father

On 13 October 2026, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection sent a delegation to a safe shelter where four girls, who have reportedly suffered sexual abuse at the hands of their father, are receiving care. The visit was carried out on behalf of Minister Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey by Director of the Domestic Violence Secretariat Malonin Asibi and ministry staff.

The team reviewed the girls’ adaptation to protective care, gathering updates from caregivers on their schooling and emotional recovery. The children are now attending school and showing marked improvement in well‑being, with earlier trauma symptoms easing as psychosocial support continues.

During the visit, a donation was presented by the Minister to aid the shelter’s upkeep. Madam Asibi expressed gratitude to caregivers for their dedication and praised the home’s ongoing support for the girls and other children. She also thanked the Judiciary and Ghana Police Service for their roles in the case and urged a fast‑tracked legal process to enable the girls’ eventual reunification with their mother, pending necessary assessments.

The Director recommended counselling for the mother to sustain family engagement and safeguard the children’s welfare. The girls thanked the Minister, affirming that they feel safe and comfortable at the shelter.
