GCB Bank PLC employees from the Sunyani Zone SCIP Cluster 3 have completed a rehabilitation of the Male Ward at Bechem Government Hospital, installing new floor tiles, replacing mosquito nets and fitting new louvres. The work was carried out as part of the bank’s 2026 Staff Community Impact Programme (SCIP), a nationwide volunteer initiative that has already launched 95 projects aimed at helping one million Ghanaians.
After assessing local needs, the team chose the hospital’s male ward as a priority area where tangible improvements could enhance patient comfort and support healthcare delivery. The upgrades are expected to benefit more than 3,000 people, including patients, medical staff and visitors, by creating a cleaner, safer and more comfortable environment.
“SCIP gives our employees the opportunity to make a direct and meaningful contribution to the communities where they live and work,” said Sadat Laminu, Head of Corporate Affairs at GCB Bank. “Our people often have firsthand insight into local challenges, and the programme empowers them to channel their time, resources and ideas into practical solutions.”
Sunyani Zonal Manager Richard Gregory Denakpor noted that the team focused on interventions that would deliver visible and lasting benefits to both patients and healthcare professionals. The ward was formally received by Dr. David K. Twumasi, Medical Superintendent, who thanked the bank and volunteers for their contribution.
Hospital management will continue regular cleaning and fumigation to maintain high standards of hygiene and sustain the gains from the project. The Bechem Government Hospital Male Ward Rehabilitation Project is the 22nd of 95 SCIP projects being implemented by GCB Bank employees across Ghana.
Looking ahead, the bank plans to expand its community impact efforts, aiming to reach more communities and improve essential services throughout the country.
