GCB Bank has broadened its corporate social responsibility strategy by launching the Staff Community Impact Programme (GCB SCIP), a platform that lets employees identify and address pressing needs in the communities where they work.
Chief Marketing Communications and Customer Experience Officer Cynthia E. Ofori‑Dwumfuo explained on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show that the programme adopts a grassroots approach, allowing staff across the bank’s 95 branch groups to spot local challenges, mobilise resources and spearhead projects that create lasting impact.
Participants are responsible for project design, fundraising and oversight, while the bank matches the funds raised, pending approval. Current interventions include community clean‑ups, school mentorship schemes, the construction of a borehole and the donation of critical medical equipment to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Korle‑Bu Teaching Hospital.
Head of People and Culture Nana Kwabena Yeboah noted that employees’ direct ties to their communities position them well to pinpoint problems and select interventions that will deliver the greatest benefit. He added that the programme strengthens staff ownership and accountability toward the areas they serve.
GCB Bank said the Staff Community Impact Programme complements its larger CSR initiatives by ensuring that development efforts reach communities through smaller, locally driven projects. The bank will continue to monitor these projects to guarantee their sustainability and ongoing benefit to beneficiaries.
