FirstBank Ghana Wraps Up 2026 Junior Internship Programme, Celebrates 200 Interns

FirstBank Ghana finished the fourth edition of its Junior Internship Programme (JIP) on 4 September, hosting a closing ceremony at its Head Office Annex in Cantonments, Accra. The event gathered about 200 interns, their families, bank staff and programme partners to mark the successful completion of the 2026 cycle and to recognise outstanding essay competition performers.

The JIP ran from 20 July to 4 September, giving young participants hands‑on exposure to the workplace while teaching financial responsibility, customer service, teamwork, communication and professional conduct. Forty‑three interns entered the essay competition, showcasing creativity, critical thinking and communication skills.

FirstBank Ghana Managing Director/CEO Osahon Ogieva highlighted the programme as evidence of the bank’s commitment to investing in youth and promoting financial literacy. “The Junior Internship Programme gives us an opportunity to introduce young people to the world of work while helping them develop an appreciation for financial responsibility, teamwork and professional values,” he said. He added that the JIP supports broader initiatives such as the KidsFirst and MeFirst accounts, designed to encourage savings and financial awareness among young customers.

At the ceremony, essay competition winners were announced. Yao Enam Kwawukume took the overall prize of GH¢5,000, while Chaim Doron Tetteh, Mawuli Kwabena Mensah and Kirstin Etornam Kudjordji shared the first runner‑up prize of GH¢3,000 each. Three interns – Patrick Kweku Asare‑Frimpong, Emmanuel Anindow and Craig Winston Nii Armah Hammond – were joint second runners‑up, each receiving GH¢2,000.

Acting Head of Retail Banking Enoch Adams congratulated all participants and thanked parents, guardians and partners for their support. He praised the interns for their commitment and the winners for their outstanding performance.

The 2026 JIP received support from the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Ghana National Association of Private Schools, Pepsodent, Papa’s Pizza, IPMC University College, Rigworld Solutions, Agate Transport Services and Pina Foods. FirstBank Ghana expressed gratitude to these partners for helping create an enriching experience for the young participants and reaffirmed its commitment to youth development and financial literacy.
