On Wednesday, October 6, residents of Nayilifong in the Yendi Constituency gathered in large numbers to witness the arrival of a 100kVA electricity transformer donated by former Member of Parliament for Yendi, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama.
For months Nayilifong has suffered from erratic power supply, disrupting businesses, schools and households. The new transformer is expected to bring a steadier flow of electricity, benefiting both the elderly and the youth who have long endured power cuts.
Community members erupted in jubilation, with many praising Mr. Aliu Mahama for his continued generosity even after he lost his seat in the 2024 general elections. “We cannot thank our son, Farouk Aliu Mahama, enough for his continuous support to us even after he lost the seat. May God bless him,” an elated woman said, echoing the sentiments of many residents.
Mr. Aliu Mahama, who served as MP for Yendi, was credited with major development projects in infrastructure, education and youth empowerment. Since leaving Parliament he has maintained philanthropic activities across the constituency, including a recent financial support to a young medical student to complete his studies.
The transformer is expected to stabilise electricity supply and boost small‑scale businesses that depend heavily on power.
