The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) announced that its Kumasi and Takoradi offices will begin operating 24 hours a day from January 2027, after a review of which branches could sustain round‑the‑clock service.
Chief Executive Officer Julius Neequaye Kotey told Eyewitness News that the authority currently runs 14 offices and is assessing each to determine viability for 24‑hour operations. “Currently, we are doing about 14 offices. When we check the books, it will speak to us,” Kotey said, noting that the rollout would be guided by the operational performance of the various offices.
He identified Kumasi and Takoradi as ready for the extended service, stating, “Kumasi and Takoradi, they qualify for 24 hours. So in January, they all start 24 hours.” The DVLA already offers 24‑hour service at its Adenta office and the Tema Port branch, which is open to the general public despite its port location.
Beyond the two existing 24‑hour locations, the agency has extended its regional offices’ hours to 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The new expansion will allow customers in Kumasi and Takoradi to access DVLA services at any time, providing greater flexibility for those who cannot visit during conventional hours.
Mr Kotey said the move aligns with Ghana’s broader 24‑hour economy agenda, which seeks to encourage economic activity and service delivery beyond the traditional working day.
