After a 2‑0 defeat to Ivory Coast in Bouaké, Ghana’s new coach Carlos Queiroz said he has “no doubt” the Black Stars will beat the Ho Ho team when they meet again in Accra.
The first‑time competitive match of Queiroz’s second spell saw Malick Yalcouye and Franck Kessie score on either side of half‑time, leaving Ghana without a point from their opening fixture.
Despite the loss, the 73‑year‑old was upbeat, saying, “When Ivory Coast comes to Ghana, with all due respect, it will be our turn to win.” He cited the historical 16‑15 head‑to‑head record, adding that the score will be 16‑16 in a couple of months and that Ghana will win the game.
The defeat places Ghana at the bottom of Group C, making the upcoming match against The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on 29 September even more critical. The Black Stars are eager to return to the Africa Cup of Nations after missing the 2025 tournament in Morocco, their first absence in over two decades.
Queiroz’s confidence comes as Ghana looks to recover momentum and secure a spot in the next continental finals.
