President John Dramani Mahama announced that once the Poultry and Meat Processing Factory in Bechem, Ahafo Region, becomes operational, the town will earn the title of Ghana’s chicken capital. The facility, which is 50 per cent complete, is part of the President’s Resetting Ghana Tour of the region.
The inspection, the first day of the two‑day tour, followed the sod‑cutting ceremony held on 27 November 2025. The plant, expected to commission by the end of the first quarter of 2027, will house modern poultry, meat and feed processing units.
Addressing the local youth, Mahama urged them to seize the opportunity the factory presents, noting a ready market for poultry products. He highlighted the Nkoko Nketenkete initiative, launched before the plant’s construction, which aimed to strengthen the value chain and increase poultry numbers for processing.
Minister of Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku added that the Feed Ghana Programme’s Nkoko Nketenkete initiative had lifted domestic poultry production from 4.6 per cent to 22 per cent as of May 2026. He emphasized that the new factory would further create employment for the community.
With the factory’s completion, Bechem is poised to become a hub for poultry farming and processing, potentially transforming the local economy and positioning Ghana as a significant player in the regional poultry market.
