The Ghana Health Service confirmed that the 100‑bed trauma hospital at Anyinam in the Atiwa East Constituency will be commissioned in January 2027.
The announcement followed an enquiry from Honourable Abena Osei Asare, Member of Parliament for the area and Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee, regarding the project’s delay. The Ministry of Health appeared before the committee on Thursday, October 8, 2026.
The project, commissioned in October 2020 with work starting in 2021, was originally scheduled for completion in 24 months but has been postponed for an additional two years.
Ben Ampomah Nkansah, Director for Infrastructure at the Ministry of Health, explained that the delay stemmed from payment issues caused by a change in government. He added that another payment had just been processed and, according to the contractor’s programme, the hospital will be handed over by the end of January.
Chairperson Osei Asare reacted, stating she has done the needful and expects the Minister to firm up the timeline, promising that the Minister will accompany her to the constituency to hand over the facility to the people of Atiwa East.
She also urged expedited work on additional buildings and facilities at the Enyiresi Government Hospital to improve healthcare delivery in Atewa East.
With the commissioning set for January 2027, residents of Atiwa East anticipate a significant boost to local medical services.
