During the National Homeownership Conference, President John Dramani Mahama stopped by the Afro‑Arab Properties exhibition booth, where CEO Alhaji Salamu Amadu announced a partnership to fast‑track affordable housing across Ghana.
Amadu said the company is ready to support the president’s ambition of becoming known as “John the Builder” by investing in the construction of 200,000 sustainable homes by 2050. He added that the target could be reached sooner through stronger collaboration between the private sector and government.
“Mr. President, if your wish is to become John the Builder, I am ready to help you build,” Amadu told Mahama. “Afro‑Arab Properties has a vision to build 200,000 homes across Ghana by 2050. With the Government’s district housing programme and the right partnership between government and the private sector, I believe we can achieve this vision much faster.”
The company’s model offers a low‑entry payment structure, allowing eligible buyers to make a minimal down payment and repay the balance over five years without interest, subject to project terms. This approach aims to remove one of the biggest hurdles to homeownership in Ghana – the need for large lump‑sum payments or traditional mortgage financing.

Amadu said Afro‑Arab Properties would work with the government, financial institutions, development partners and other private‑sector stakeholders to accelerate housing delivery nationwide. The president reportedly welcomed the commitment and expressed the government’s willingness to back credible private‑sector initiatives that expand access to affordable homes.
With its 200,000‑home target by 2050, Afro‑Arab Properties plans to spread projects across the country while promoting environmentally responsible development under its “Afro‑Arab is Green” philosophy. The company’s broader message, “Everyone Can Buy a House,” underscores its commitment to making homeownership attainable for all Ghanaians.
What follows is a formal agreement outlining the partnership’s scope, timelines and financing mechanisms, expected to be signed in the coming weeks.
