The Adunyame Foundation and Hadassah Network Outreach have rolled out free breast cancer awareness education and screening services to markets throughout the Greater Accra Region, aiming to bring preventive healthcare closer to women who might find it difficult to leave their businesses for routine check‑ups.
The program launched at Okankor Market and has already reached Dome Market, with upcoming visits scheduled for Madina, Kasoa, Nungua and Makola markets.
Founder of the Adunyame Foundation and Head of Events and Partnerships at Channel One TV and Citi FM, Frema Adunyame, explained that the outreach seeks to bring healthcare directly to market women. Speaking at the Dome Market exercise, she noted the encouraging response, with several women turning up for screening even as the event drew to a close.
“Early detection makes a whole lot of difference,” she said, emphasizing the importance of identifying potential health concerns early to improve the chances of effective treatment and management. She also urged men to participate in the awareness campaign and support efforts to promote early detection of breast cancer.
Ms Adunyame thanked partners and supporters, including the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and Star Oil, as well as individuals whose contributions helped make the outreach possible. The exercise forms part of activities marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, which seeks to raise public awareness of the disease and encourage early detection.
