Ranking Member of Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has demanded that the government account for the GH¢650 billion allocated to existing economic programmes before introducing a proposed “new economy” in the 2027 Budget.
Parliament has earmarked roughly GH¢650 billion for initiatives such as the 24‑hour economy, the One Million Coders programme, the Women’s Development Bank and Nkokonkitinkiti. Mr Oppong Nkrumah said the state must first demonstrate the outcomes of these programmes before shifting focus to a new agenda.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse, he criticised the lack of evidence on the progress of the 24‑hour economy, calling it a “hoax” and noting no one‑three‑shift system has been implemented. He also questioned the impact of the One Million Coders initiative and the Women’s Development Bank, arguing the government has not provided sufficient proof of results.
“We have appropriated GH¢650 billion for them to achieve these economic objectives. Two years on, they haven’t accounted for the results of all of this,” Mr Oppong Nkrumah said. He warned that announcing a new economic programme without first addressing existing commitments would divert attention from programmes already promised to Ghanaians.
The ranking member called on the government to report on the use of the allocated funds before proceeding with its proposed “new economy.”
