The late Abubakar Sedik, who served as the District Chief Executive of Mankranso in the Ashanti Region, passed away on Sunday evening, 20 September, after a short illness. His body was laid to rest today, Monday, 21 September, at the Mankranso School Park, where the Muslim community gathered to offer the final Juma’ah prayers and bid farewell.
Scores of mourners, residents, friends and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) attended the ceremony, expressing deep sorrow over the sudden loss of a leader who had been a prominent figure in the district. The atmosphere was marked by tears and a palpable sense of grief as the community struggled to come to terms with the death of a man who had served as the DCE.
According to the local assembly, Sedik had returned to Mankranso from a meeting with Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Mahama Ayariga in Kumasi, where stakeholders discussed the completion of the Kejetia Phase Two Redevelopment project. He reportedly fell ill after the meeting and could not survive.
In the week prior to his death, the district had been in the news spotlight after Sedik was accused of attempting to demolish a school facility in Mankranso to make way for a 24‑hour economy market. He denied the allegation. Sedik had also been the NDC parliamentary candidate for the area in the 2024 election.
The community’s mourning continues as the district and the wider Ahafo Ano South West Municipality reflect on Sedik’s contributions and the abrupt end of his service. The local assembly has not yet announced any successor for the DCE position.
