On JoyNews’ Newsfile, Wonder Sitsofe Mandel, special aide to the Sports Minister, stated that the Ministry of Sports and Recreation will not shield anyone found to have engaged in wrongdoing in the ongoing World Cup visa scandal investigation.
He said the law must take its course, noting that the Criminal Investigations Department is already probing the matter. “Whenever there is wrongdoing, the law must take its course, and the ministry is not shielding anybody,” he said, adding that any unlawful money collection or improper benefit would lead to prosecution.
The comments come after reports that roughly $623,000 was paid in visa facilitation fees for Ghana’s supporters and officials traveling to the tournament. President John Mahama has suspended Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Director General of the NSA, pending further inquiry.
The Minority party is demanding that the investigation extend to other officials it believes were involved, calling for the removal and prosecution of the Sports Minister and the GTA Chief Executive if culpable.
