Paramount Chief Torgbuiga Akpo Ashiakpor VI of the Weta Traditional Area urged the government to urgently rehabilitate the dilapidated roads that run from Ehi through Agbozume and Weta Junction, across Weta township to Xevi and Dzodze, and to extend the Big Push road infrastructure programme to the area.
Speaking at the 10th anniversary celebration of Galiza in Ehi, the chief highlighted that inadequate security resources, including patrol vehicles, were hampering swift responses to incidents and called for a strengthened police presence to improve safety.
He warned that interference in traditional affairs could undermine peace efforts and raised concerns about the growing trade in illicit drugs among young people, describing it as a national security issue. The chief also urged action against hate speech, which he linked to indiscipline.
On development matters, the chief appealed for the renovation of the Weta Irrigation Scheme, which has suffered years of flood damage, and expressed confidence in the Ketu North Municipal Assembly, led by Municipal Chief Executive Martin Kwabla Amenaki, to spearhead the restoration.
He urged indigenes in influential government positions to support legitimate traditional authorities and refrain from interference that could disrupt peace. The chief called on residents and indigenes to contribute to the area’s development through investment, education, innovation and service.
Reflecting on Galiza’s decade‑long journey, the chief said the celebration was an opportunity to preserve cultural identity, strengthen unity and plan for the future of the Weta Traditional Area, and congratulated organisers on the anniversary while calling for renewed unity and collective action.
