Suame MP Denies Role in SIC Settlement

John Darko, the Member of Parliament for Suame, denied any involvement in the settlement that followed a court judgment against SIC Savings and Loans Company Limited (SIC). The denial came after the MP appeared before investigators of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Tuesday, 13 October 2026.

In a statement released by his lawyers, Darko Keli‑Delataa & Co, the focus of the interrogation was his role as legal counsel for Equity Savings and Loans during its litigation with SIC over an unpaid investment. The firm also represented Equity while Darko sat on its board from 2015 to 2023.

Mr Darko assured investigators that his firm’s work was limited to the litigation and the recovery of part of the judgment awards in favour of SIC. He added that the firm had no further role in any subsequent settlement between the parties.

The statement noted that the firm was unaware of Equity’s decision to dispose of land that had been subject to a judicial attachment to Eco Swiss Investment Limited, a third party. It also said the firm had terminated its legal services to Equity over non‑payment of fees before the post‑judgment developments.

“Our client had ceased to be board member of Equity by September 2023 and was certainly not a participant in any decision to compromise a court judgment in a conspiratorial scheme to deny SIC the benefits of its judicial awards,” the statement read.

The case involves a July 2024 settlement in which SIC agreed to accept GH¢5 million in full and final settlement of a revised judgment debt of GH¢14.85 million. EOCO estimates the financial loss from the alleged conspiracy at approximately GH¢27 million.

EOCO’s investigation also includes Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, who has been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, intentional financial loss to a public body and money laundering.

Mr Darko’s lawyers said their client remains committed to the investigation and is ready to provide any further assistance required by EOCO. They praised the investigators for their professionalism and the courtesies extended to him during the interrogation.

The firm insisted that Mr Darko and his practice had acted ethically and professionally throughout their engagement with Equity, guided by the principles of professional responsibility.
