New York court officials reported that U.S. actress Selma Blair was arrested late Sunday after an altercation on a Delta flight from Los Angeles to New York. The FBI issued a federal summons accusing her of assault aboard the aircraft. Blair, who is best known for her role in Legally Blonde, pleaded not guilty and has been released on bail.

According to the New York Port Authority, the incident prompted a call about a “physically abusive passenger.” Two flight attendants were injured, and one was taken to a hospital. Audio from air‑traffic control indicated a pilot requested medical assistance, noting a “bloody nose” and “some bite marks.”

After the flight landed, Blair was taken to an ambulance where she allegedly kicked a police officer. Once at the hospital, prosecutors say she also assaulted a nurse. The two additional assault charges were filed in state court following her removal from the plane.

Blair’s attorney, Shawn Barnes, asked the judge to consider the actress’s “body of work” and described her as the “gold standard.” The judge denied the request, stating that Blair should not receive special treatment because she is a celebrity. Bail was set at $20,000 in cash or $60,000 in bond, with a next hearing scheduled for 19 January. A federal hearing date has yet to be set.

Blair’s representatives have told the BBC that she experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. The case highlights the growing scrutiny of public figures who face legal action in the United States.
