After the Black Stars’ 4-2 loss to Gambia at Accra Sports Stadium, head coach Carlos Queiroz said he would not resign, even though many Ghanaians have urged the Ghana Football Association to part ways with him.
Queiroz was on the touchline when Ghana squandered a two‑goal advantage to lose the match, the second of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The defeat followed a 2‑0 loss to Côte d’Ivoire in the opening game, leaving the team without a continental appearance for the first time in recent years.
During his post‑match press conference, Queiroz acknowledged that a resignation would be an easy solution when results are poor, but he said he does not believe it would change the situation for Ghanaian football. “If you think a resignation will change the situation of football in Ghana, I will be the first one to resign,” he said. “I don’t have that belief, but that is a decision for the board of the federation to analyse and decide.”
The result has intensified pressure on Queiroz and the Black Stars to rebound quickly, as the GFA faces mounting calls to make a change. The board will now weigh whether to sack the Portuguese coach or give him another chance to steer the team back to continental competition.
