DCOP Francis Nchor of the Central East Regional Police Command confirmed that Awudu Baba, 27, was arrested at a checkpoint on the Kasoa‑Bawjiase Highway around midnight on September 19, 2026. Police found the suspect in possession of five smartphones – an iPhone 6, an iPhone 6 Plus, a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, a Samsung A12 – and five SIM cards. According to the commander, Baba swallowed the SIM cards as he realised arrest was imminent.
Investigators say the phones were taken from Awutu Bawjiase in the Central Region. Victims are urged to report to the Central East Regional Police Command for identification and recovery of their property.
In a related operation, the Operations Unit intercepted a Kia Mighty truck (registration GN 5255‑23) on September 26, 2026, carrying suspected stolen household items, including a king‑size mattress, kitchen cabinet, deep freezer, seven refrigerators, microwave, stove, framed aluminium‑glazed windows, electric sockets, a knapsack spraying machine, TV sockets and floodlights. The items were allegedly stolen from a building in Chocho, Bontrasi‑Bereku road.
Patrick Haziel, the driver, and Mohammed Sulemana, the alleged owner, were involved. Haziel admitted the items belonged to Sulemana, who fled when police approached. DCOP Nchor said investigations led to Sulemana’s arrest; he has been remanded and will appear in court on October 12, 2026.
Only one victim has so far identified recovered items. The command again urges other potential victims to report to Central East Regional Police Command.
Meanwhile, Evans Pinkreh, alias Kwame Adjei, is serving a five‑month sentence after being convicted in August 2026 for stealing and selling about 50 live pigs from a farm where he worked as a caretaker.
