Central North Regional Police Command has clarified that Albert Ogoe, a phone dealer and elder of the Pentecost Church, was not kidnapped on October 4, 2026, as earlier reports suggested. Instead, he was taken into custody by the Police Intelligence Unit at the National Police Headquarters for an alleged GH¢200,000 fraud case.
Chief Superintendent Edmund Agyemang Badu, the Regional Crime Officer, stated that Ogoe was arrested at his hideout to aid investigations into the fraud. He was then transported to Accra for further processing.
During the arrest, police asked Ogoe to inform his family of the circumstances. He was hesitant, fearing that news of his involvement could become public, given his status as a church elder. Consequently, officers used his phone to contact his wife and explain the situation.
Despite the police’s explanation, Ogoe’s family later reported to another police station that he had been kidnapped by unknown persons, fueling the spread of false abduction claims. The Central North Police Command has since debunked these kidnapping allegations and urged the public to disregard them.
The police have called for calm and reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the area.
