Patience Enyonam Akyianu, the former Managing Director of Barclays Bank Ghana and Group Chief Executive Officer of Hollard Ghana, has reportedly passed away. The CEO Network Ghana released a statement confirming her death, expressing profound sadness and offering condolences to her family, colleagues, and friends.
Mrs Akyianu’s career spanned more than two decades, during which she held senior leadership roles in both banking and insurance. She began her banking journey at Barclays Bank Ghana, rising to Finance Director before being appointed Managing Director, a position she held for five years. In October 2018, she transitioned to the insurance sector as the first CEO of Hollard Ghana Holdings, guiding the newly established group through a period of transformation and growth.
Her academic credentials include an MBA in Finance and a B.Sc. in Business Administration (Accounting) from the University of Ghana Business School. She was also a certified professional accountant and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana.
Akyianu was recognized for her contributions to finance and capital markets, receiving the Millennium Excellence Award for Finance and Capital Market Excellence in May 2025. She also served on corporate boards and was a founding member of the Executive Women Network and the International Women’s Forum, Ghana.
During her tenure at Hollard, she championed initiatives to make insurance more accessible, launching products such as the Asomdwee insurance for micro, small and medium enterprises in partnership with the Ghana Enterprises Agency. Her leadership also saw the company invest in digital solutions and new distribution channels.
