A road accident on the Accra-Kumasi highway last Wednesday evening has left one woman dead and 14 other people injured, following a collision between a heavy-duty truck and a commercial minibus near Paradise Restaurant.

Fire officials in Bunso said they received an emergency call around 7:30pm and dispatched a six-member crew, which reached the scene roughly 15 minutes later to find both vehicles badly damaged.

Witnesses told fire officials that the truck, a MAN Diesel vehicle heading toward Accra, swerved to avoid a Toyota Vitz that was overtaking dangerously. In doing so, it crossed into the opposite lane and struck the side of an oncoming Toyota Hiace minibus.

The impact caused significant damage to the front of the truck and the side of the minibus. Of the 14 injured passengers, all received treatment at the scene, but a female occupant of one of the vehicles was confirmed dead before help arrived.

Firefighters helped retrieve belongings from the wrecked vehicles and worked to clear the highway, finally leaving the scene around 8:46pm once traffic was able to move again.

Authorities have not yet released further details on the identities of the victims, and investigations into the exact cause of the crash are ongoing.
