New Patriotic Party General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua dismissed rumours that he and aspiring National Chairman John Boadu could clash, insisting both are mature politicians focused on winning the 2028 general election.
Kodua’s comments came after the 2022 national delegates conference, where Boadu lost the General Secretary role to him but emerged as the leading candidate for National Chairman. Provisional results show Boadu leading the race.
Speaking to Channel One TV’s Hanson Agyemang, Kodua said the party’s priority must remain on securing victory for its flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. “The positive aspect is that JB never stood anywhere and said that he can’t work with me. Likewise, I never stood anywhere and said I cannot work with JB,” he said.
He added that both men share a common agenda: “We all have a common agenda, which is to make Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia the president of Ghana in 2029. And we are focused.”
Kodua expressed confidence that Boadu and the incoming leadership would collaborate to win for the NPP. “I can tell that JB and the JFK administration are going to give us victory in 2028,” he said.
Observers note that unity between the two leaders is seen as crucial for the party’s strategy ahead of the 2028 election.
