NPP Delegates Congress Postponed as Late Arrivals Stall Kumasi Event

The New Patriotic Party’s National Delegates Congress and Officers’ elections were delayed at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi after delegates began arriving late, preventing the exercise from starting at its scheduled 9:00 a.m. kickoff on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

The congress, which will elect a new crop of national officers to guide the party for the next four years, was expected to feature 7,163 delegates from across the country casting ballots in key national executive contests.

Delegates were slated to vote on positions including National Chairperson, Vice Chairpersons, General Secretary, National Treasurer, National Organiser, National Women’s Organiser, National Youth Organiser, National Nasara Organiser and National Communications Director, as well as consider proposed amendments to the party’s constitution.

The Electoral Commission is set to supervise the election, a core part of the NPP’s internal processes ahead of the forthcoming electoral cycle. Security and traffic arrangements were already in place, with over 3,000 police officers deployed by the party’s Organisation Committee to manage the venue and surrounding areas.

With the delay, the congress is now expected to resume once all delegates have arrived, though the exact new start time has not yet been announced.
