Ghana Police Service arrested Patrick Kwaku Frimpong, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman for Bosome Freho in the Ashanti Region, on Tuesday night following an alleged incident involving a ballot paper at the party’s National Delegates Conference.

The incident reportedly began when a Bosome Freho delegate was unable to cast a vote using the electronic system. The Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP, Dr Francis Adomako, had earlier written to the constituency to bar the delegate from participating in Saturday’s election. When the Electoral Commission (EC) issued a paper ballot to enable the delegate to vote, Mr Frimpong allegedly seized the paper and tore it apart.

Police responded to the claim and detained Mr Frimpong for questioning. No further details are yet available on whether charges have been filed or what evidence the police have gathered.

Observers note that the arrest comes amid heightened scrutiny of the NPP’s internal processes ahead of the upcoming national elections. The party’s leadership has yet to comment on the matter.

Watch for updates from the Ghana Police Service and the Electoral Commission as the situation develops.
