Naa Ashorkor Fulfills 14‑Year Dream, Called to the Ghana Bar

On Friday, October 9, 2026, Naa Ashorkor Mensah‑Doku was among 1,568 newly qualified lawyers called to the Ghana Bar, marking the culmination of her 14‑year legal journey. The ceremony, held at the Ghana Law School, saw her formally take her place among Ghana’s legal practitioners.

Ms. Ashorkor first enrolled for an LLB at the University of Ghana in 2012, graduating in 2015 before proceeding to the Ghana School of Law. She had paused her studies to raise children and pursue other interests, but returned to the classroom in 2024 with a renewed determination to finish her training within two years.

In a Facebook post shared before the enrolment ceremony, she thanked God for making her dream a reality, saying, “This is what the Lord has done. God bless you.” The post also reflected on the anxiety she felt when returning to law school after a long break, yet she pledged to study hard and pass all exams on the first attempt.

Her call to the Bar adds another chapter to a diverse career that began with a bachelor’s degree from the Ghana Institute of Journalism in 2010, an LLB from the University of Ghana in 2015, and a master’s in Public Relations in 2021. The achievement has drawn admiration from peers, including George Quaye, CEO of Image Bureau, who praised her perseverance and celebrated her “woman of immense talent” who dared to dream again.

Ms. Ashorkor was one of three media practitioners called to the Bar that day, alongside Channel One TV and Citi FM journalist Umaru Sanda Amadu and broadcast journalist Ayisha Ibrahim. The ceremony highlighted the growing intersection of media and law in Ghana.

Looking ahead, Ms. Ashorkor plans to balance her new legal career with her ongoing work in broadcasting and public relations, demonstrating that it is never too late to pursue another dream.
