A total of 26 suspects have been put before the courts in connection with the 2020 and 2024 election-related violence. One has been discharged, while 25 suspects are currently standing trial. Police are also pursuing 13 other suspects identified as connected to the cases, including Sankara, Elvis Kunogbe, Paa Yaw and others.
Providing an update on the cases at the Jubilee House on Monday as part of the Government Accountability Series, the Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, announced that a prime suspect wanted for murder in connection with election-related violence in Tolon was recently declared unopposed as the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Constituency Youth Organiser for Tolon while still at large.
He said the suspect, Abdul Latif Copshe, shot and killed Sayibu Haruna at Nyankpala on December 7, 2024, and went into hiding. The minister disclosed that despite his absence from the community, forms were picked for Copshe to contest unopposed in the NPP's internal election as constituency youth organiser. The shooting occurred following allegations of vote buying, with armed men firing indiscriminately into an NDC pavilion area, killing Sayibu Haruna and injuring others. Three suspected pistols and one CZ rifle were retrieved during investigations.
On Offinso North, the minister revealed that two additional suspects, James Kwadwo Owusu, alias Kojos, and Kwame Adutwum, alias Hardman, have been arrested in connection with the lynching of Jacob Nlor at Akomadan in the Offinso North Constituency, bringing the total number of suspects in that case to six. He said on September 15, 2025, Kojos was arraigned with four other suspects and later granted bail by the High Court 4, Kumasi, while Adutwum was arraigned on May 7, 2026, and released on bail. The six suspects are scheduled to appear on September 3, 2026, while a duplicate docket has been submitted to the Attorney-General's Office.
In the Banda Constituency, he said Silas Wulochamey was stabbed to death on July 13, 2020, during the voter registration exercise at Banda Ahenkro. Police investigations indicate that Joe Danquah, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate, led a mob to assault Moro Shimo, brother of the NDC MP, triggering reprisal attacks that culminated in the murder. The prime suspect, Gabriel Yaw Agyei, alias Abodie, was arraigned on March 11, 2026, on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and murder.
Mohammed-Mubarak said in the Nkoranza South Constituency, a soldier, Lance Corporal Darkwah Dwamena Okyere, had been identified as shooting to death Abdul Karim Rafik, alias Tyson, at the Effah Presbyterian Primary School Polling Station on December 7, 2024.
In the Dormaa West Constituency, violent clashes at the Electoral Commission office at Nkrankwanta on August 8, 2020, during the voter registration mop-up, resulted in the death of Kofi Robert, alias Kofi Labert. He said Osman Mohammed, alias Mba, is facing trial at the Berekum Circuit Court, scheduled for October 22, 2026, while suspect Moctar remains at large.
The minister also gave an update on the Ahafo Ano South West and Ayawaso West Wuogon constituencies, saying the trial of three accused persons in the Odododiodio case was ongoing before the High Court 1, Accra, with the next hearing scheduled for October 12, 2026.
Mohammed-Mubarak said police would continue to pursue all outstanding suspects and support the prosecution of those already before the courts.
