Isaac Ashai Odamtten, MP for Tema East, urged men to take a leading role in breast cancer awareness at the launch of Breast Cancer Awareness Month by the International Maritime Hospital (IMaH). He said the disease should not be seen solely as a women’s health issue, noting its impact on husbands, children, families, workplaces and communities.
Odamtten highlighted the need for everyday conversations about breast health, beyond the October‑only activities, and asked husbands and partners to support women in noticing unusual changes such as lumps, size or appearance changes, skin alterations and abnormal nipple discharge.
The MP also called for broader public education to combat fear, stigma and misinformation that can deter timely medical care or lead to reliance on unverified treatments. He stressed that awareness should extend to homes, churches, mosques, schools, workplaces and other community settings.
Odamtten announced his commitment to fully sponsor this year’s Manhean Breast Cancer Month as part of his contribution to prevention efforts. He praised IMaH and its partners for initiating the campaign and urged Ghanaians to move beyond wearing the pink ribbon by taking practical steps to promote early detection.
