President John Dramani Mahama has moved to dispel concerns that his government has abandoned the Agenda 111 hospital project, insisting that construction will continue and the facilities will be completed.
Speaking at Paga in the Upper East Region on Thursday, August 13, the President said 35 hospitals that are already at least 70 per cent complete have been earmarked for completion this year, with funding already allocated toward finishing them.
He said a further 20 hospitals, each at least halfway complete, will be selected for completion next year, with additional projects expected to wrap up by 2028. Districts that currently have no health facility at all, he added, will be given priority in the rollout.
Agenda 111 was initiated under the previous New Patriotic Party administration, and questions have persisted over whether the current government would see the ambitious hospital-building programme through.
Beyond health infrastructure, Mahama also used the Paga visit to address other local concerns, assuring residents that the Navio Bridge project would soon be awarded to a contractor. He further pledged to tackle water supply challenges in the area by getting Community Water and Ghana Water Limited to coordinate their efforts and improve access to potable water.
