An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent opened fire on a man in the Bronx, New York City, during a targeted enforcement operation aimed at arresting a criminal illegal alien. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees ICE, confirmed that the officer discharged his weapon while the suspect was surrounded by agents and a five‑year‑old child in the vehicle, though the child was reportedly unharmed.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was said to be from the Dominican Republic and had a prior conviction for grand larceny along with multiple arrests for assault, robbery, drug possession and weapons possession. DHS also stated he was linked to the Trinitarios, a transnational criminal group described by the Justice Department.

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the incident “unconscionable and incredibly serious,” and demanded that President Donald Trump end ICE enforcement actions in the city. Governor Kathy Hochul said she had spoken to President Trump and expressed “outrage on behalf of New Yorkers,” urging the release of body‑camera footage to establish the facts.

Protesters gathered at the scene later that evening, chanting “we want justice” and “ICE off our streets now.” The DHS has not yet issued a public comment beyond the initial statement, and President Trump has not yet responded to the shooting.
