Former National Petroleum Authority chief executive Dr Mustapha Abdul‑Hamid failed to secure the New Patriotic Party’s third vice‑chair position, finishing fourth with 2,956 votes, 31 votes shy of Nana Akomea who clinched the spot with 2,987 votes.
Kojo Fosu Boadu won the First Vice Chairmanship with 3,116 votes, while Henry Nana Boakye took the Second Vice Chairmanship with 3,061 votes.
The result marked a sharp reversal for Dr Hamid, who had led an early opinion poll. A Global InfoAnalytics poll released on 1 September 2026 had placed him at the top of the race with 18.3% voter preference, ahead of Henry Nana Boakye and Nana Akomea, both at 17.5%, and Kojo Fosu Boadu, who was fourth in the poll with 5.6%. The poll surveyed 2,581 respondents across all 16 regions, with a reported margin of error of ±1.9 percentage points.
Dr Hamid’s political résumé includes stints as Minister for Information (2017‑2021) and Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development, before heading the NPA from 2021 until the end of the Akufo‑Addo administration in January 2025. He holds a PhD in Religious Studies from the University of Cape Coast and has lectured in the university’s Department of Religion and Human Values.
The NPP has now elected a new national executive team for the next four years. John Boadu was chosen as National Chairman, Justin Frimpong Kodua retained the General Secretary role, and Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus‑Glover was elected National Organiser. The new leadership will steer the party as it readies for the 2028 general election.
Observers note that the close vote margins reflect a competitive internal dynamic within the party, with the final vice‑chair seats being decided by narrow differences.
