Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, declared that contractors working on the government’s ‘Big Push’ Road Infrastructure programme will be paid promptly once they submit their certificates. He said the long delays that once plagued road projects are now behind the government, especially those initiated under President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking after inspecting the rehabilitation of the 48‑kilometre Sunyani‑Atronie‑Acherensua Road at Antwikrom in the Sunyani Municipality, Agbodza explained that no certificates would be left pending for six months or a year. He added that arrears under the ‘Big Push’ are being cleared and that funds are readily available.
The minister also reviewed progress on the 34‑kilometre Sunyani Outer Ring Road, which is being asphalted by Kofi Job Company Limited. Both projects are slated for completion within two years. Agbodza urged contractors to work hard and accelerate their schedules, warning against shoddy workmanship.
Alexiboam Company Limited, executing the Sunyani‑Atronie‑Acherensua Road, has begun major asphalt overlays and pledged to finish ahead of schedule. CEO Alex Boampong noted that construction of the Tano Bridge between Ntotroso and Acherensua was delayed but is now 90 % complete.
Agbodza concluded that once certificates are raised, payments will follow, and he encouraged all contractors to maintain quality standards.
