Members of Ghana’s senior women's national football team, the Black Queens, have issued a damning joint press release addressing long-standing financial disputes, neglect, and poor welfare management by sports authorities.
In an official statement released directly by the players, the squad highlighted several critical grievances, including unpaid Egypt 2025 bonuses, WAFCON qualification bonuses, group stage match bonuses, and outstanding per diem allowances. Beyond the financial backlog, the players called for structural changes, including enhanced mental health support, overall well-being provisions, and stronger managerial backing for players and technical staff.
"We dedicate our time, energy and careers to representing Ghana. We train, travel and compete under immense pressure, making personal sacrifices to make our country proud," the statement reads. "Our request is simple: transparency, accountability, fairness and respect."
The squad also shed light on the stark lack of high-level administrative presence throughout their recent campaign, revealing that top officials were largely absent. According to the players, the Sports Minister and the President visited the team only once during their very first official training session leaving the squad to rely almost entirely on themselves and their immediate technical staff.
While emphasizing that the release is not intended to spark conflict or cause disrespect, the Black Queens called on decision-makers and the Ministry to engage in immediate dialogue to resolve the issues. The players maintained that financial obligations should be honored on time, concluding with a firm reminder to authorities: "We deserve the same commitment and support that we give to our country."
