The Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association (GHABA) has urged the government and private sector to boost investment in skills and enterprise development within the beauty industry, arguing that doing so will create jobs and strengthen businesses across the country.
During the maiden national edition of the GHABA Hair and Beauty Festival on 29 September 2026, the association highlighted that the beauty sector has evolved beyond basic hairdressing and beautification. It now offers opportunities in entrepreneurship, product development, branding and employment creation, particularly for women and young people.
President of GHABA Tina Offei Yirenkyi told the media that while skill is essential, members must also master business management, customer service, financial management, digital marketing and branding. “Skill is important, but skill alone is not enough. Our members must also master business management, customer service, financial management, digital marketing and branding. We must move beyond simply owning salons and shops to building professional, sustainable and profitable enterprises,” she said.

On behalf of the General Secretary of the Industrial Workers’ Union, Morgan Ayawine, Deputy General Secretary Emmanuel Benimah delivered the keynote address, calling for greater recognition and support for apprentices in Ghana’s beauty industry. He stressed that apprentices are an important part of the country’s economy and future workforce, urging young people and skilled professionals to view entrepreneurship and enterprise development as pathways to economic independence and wealth creation.
The association has organised regional hair and beauty festivals for about 25 years but said it established the national platform to bring together practitioners, businesses, exhibitors and other stakeholders from across the country.
GHABA’s appeal comes as the beauty industry continues to grow, yet many practitioners remain focused on basic service provision. The association hopes that enhanced training and business support will unlock the sector’s full potential and deliver sustainable livelihoods for a new generation of Ghanaian beauty professionals.
