Ghana has unveiled its first national, open‑access digital learning platform – the Ghana Climate Literacy Portal (GCLP). The portal, free to use, provides a suite of self‑paced courses designed to educate, train and empower citizens to respond to climate change.
Developed in partnership with the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) and the University of Ghana’s Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Studies, GCLP’s flagship course, Climate 101, spans eight modules from basic climate science to climate resilience in Africa. Each module is followed by a quiz that must be passed with at least 70 % before progressing.
Beyond Climate 101, the portal hosts three additional courses: Climate Advocacy, Built Environment, Climate Adaptation & Resilience, and Climate Negotiations. These are delivered by experts such as Isaac Danso of the Environmental Protection Agency, Dr. Jacob Dodoo of the School of Built Environment at the University of Environment and Sustainable Development, and Dr. Antwi‑Boasiako Amoah, Chair of the African Group of Negotiators on Climate Change.
Users report that the platform’s interactive quizzes and expert-led content deepen understanding and inspire practical action, such as energy‑efficient living and climate‑focused writing. The GCLP aligns with Article 6 of the UNFCCC and Article 12 of the Paris Agreement, which mandate climate education and public awareness.
As Ghana’s first climate education hub, GCLP offers a free, accessible resource for all Ghanaians to learn, advocate and lead climate action. The portal is open to anyone with internet access, promising to broaden climate literacy across the country.
