The Ga Central Municipal Assembly, working with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), has donated relief items to victims of recent flooding in the Greater Accra municipality.
The handover took place at the forecourt of the assembly at Antieku last Wednesday and was aimed at supporting residents severely affected by the floods. Items distributed included mattresses, blankets, cups, bowls, basins, rice, cooking oil, mosquito nets and buckets.
The Ga Central Municipal Chief Executive, Emmanuel Adotey Allotey, said the presentation formed part of a broader humanitarian response coordinated at the national level and was a key intervention to soften the disaster's impact on affected households. He expressed sympathy to all individuals and families affected by the floods and said the donation was meant to help communities recover and get back on their feet.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic after the event, Allotey said the floods had affected more than 11,000 victims in the Ga Central Municipality and caused extensive property damage. He assured residents that anyone whose health insurance card had been washed away or destroyed would receive a replacement free of charge.
Allotey commended the Ga Central Municipal NADMO director and his team, the Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority and the Ministry of Health for their swift response when the situation was most critical, and urged other organizations and institutions in the municipality to lend similar support.
