On Saturday, September 26, 2026, Fomena T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School emerged as champions of the Ashanti Regional Students Drama Festival (STUDRAFEST) after defeating seven other schools at the Apatakesie Theatre Facility of the Centre for National Culture.
The troupe’s production, "The Treasure We Broke," impressed both judges and the audience with a compelling storyline, believable acting, and an impressive visual presentation that highlighted creative use of props, costumes and set design.
St. Louis Senior High School finished second, while Kumasi Wesley Girls Senior High School took third place. Five individual awards were also presented in the categories of Best Indigenous Play, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Costume and Best Script.
Mr. Peter Kofi Marfo, Ashanti Regional Director of the Centre for National Culture, welcomed the return of STUDRAFEST, noting its role in nurturing young talent and equipping students with creative skills for national development. He praised the commitment of schools, students and drama coordinators.
Nana Yaw Akuoko, Otumfuo Assinhene Sepaase, who chaired the event, lauded the zeal of the drama coordinators and the creativity of the students, calling for the establishment of mini performance theatres in all schools to nurture talent from an early stage.
The festival, organised by the Centre for National Culture, Ashanti Region and the National Commission on Culture in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), brought together eight schools, each staging a production around an assigned theme to explore pertinent social issues.
Other participating schools included Kumasi Secondary Technical School (KSTS), Osei Tutu SHS, Agogo State College, Toase SHS and Ibadur Rahman Academy.
Looking ahead, organisers plan to expand the festival next year, aiming to include more schools and broaden the range of themes explored by students.
