A large fire erupted on Friday, October 9, at a Quality Foam mattress showroom located in Sokoban‑Ampayoo, near Kumasi Hospital in the Ashanti Region. The blaze consumed a significant portion of the building and destroyed many mattresses stored inside.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and the full extent of the damage is still being assessed. The Ghana National Fire Service arrived promptly and worked to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent properties, including a commercial garage that houses parked vehicles.

Residents in the area rushed to the garage to help protect the vehicles, fearing that the fire could reach the adjoining structure. Despite the intensity of the blaze, no injuries have been reported and the showroom’s remaining structure was reportedly intact, though it was broken into to rescue finished products.
Dr. Med. Samuel Asante, a director of the company, said the facility houses various machines used in mattress production and that the showroom was closed at the time of the fire, with only security personnel on site. He added that experts would be brought in after the fire service completed its work to assess the damage.

Investigations are underway to determine how the fire started and to establish the full scope of the damage. Management has confirmed that no casualties have been recorded so far.
Firefighters’ swift response is expected to limit further destruction in the area, but details on the time the fire began and the precise damage remain unclear.
