The Ghana Chamber of Mines presented 61 bags of 25‑kilogram rice to the Akropong School for the Blind and the Demonstration School for the Deaf at Mampong in the Eastern Region. Thirty‑one bags were handed to the blind school and 30 bags to the deaf school as part of the Chamber’s corporate social investment programme.
Director of Analysis, Research and Finance Christopher Opoku Nyarko said the donation was intended to help the schools meet basic needs and improve student welfare. He added that the Chamber had already supported the blind school last year with funds for painting the assembly hall, and that the partnership would continue with further visits and assistance.
Headmistress Veronica Dery praised the ongoing support, noting the beautification of the assembly hall and expressing hope that the friendship would last. Assistant Headmistress Mabel Ofosu thanked the Chamber for the timely aid, highlighting the school’s need for a disability‑friendly assembly hall and other infrastructure upgrades.
The Demonstration School for the Deaf has about 530 students and currently uses its dining hall as an assembly space, which is not suitable for its students. The rice donation is seen as a significant gesture that will help feed students and encourage staff to keep working.
Mr. Nyarko urged other corporate organisations to include similar institutions in their community support programmes and encouraged the students to pursue education seriously and become responsible adults.
Both schools welcome the Chamber’s continued partnership and hope it will lead to further assistance, particularly in addressing infrastructure needs.
