Caleb Flynn, 40, a former pastor who once appeared on American Idol in 2013, was sentenced Monday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of his wife, 37‑year‑old Ashley Flynn, in Tipp City, Ohio.
Judge Jeannine Pratt called Flynn’s actions “abhorrent” and “quite honestly impossible to fathom” as she handed down the sentence after a jury found him guilty of aggravated murder, multiple counts of murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence.
Flynn had called 911 on February 16, claiming his wife had been shot by an intruder. Prosecutors alleged he shot her twice in the back of the head in bed, staged the scene to look like a break‑in through the garage, and used his daughters to reinforce the false narrative.
During the sentencing hearing, Flynn cried as he read prepared remarks, denying responsibility and asserting his innocence. He apologized to his wife’s family and his daughters, saying he would continue to fight for his innocence.
Prosecutors argued Flynn was a “dangerous individual with no regard for human life” and that he had planned the murder for months. The defense maintained his innocence and requested a sentence that would allow for parole after rehabilitation.
Flynn faces life in prison without parole. The case has drawn intense public attention, with victim impact statements from his daughters Alyssa and Ava highlighting the profound pain caused by the crime.
