Al-Riyadh confirmed the signing on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new Saudi Pro League campaign. The club welcomed the 31-year-old with a message declaring that “the leopard Mensah” was back.

Mensah previously represented Al-Riyadh during the 2024/25 season before leaving Saudi Arabia for UAE Pro League club Al-Nasr in August 2025.

Impressive first spell

The Ghanaian midfielder made a strong impression during his previous spell at Al-Riyadh.

He featured in 30 matches across competitions, including 29 Saudi Pro League appearances and one King’s Cup game. During that campaign, Mensah contributed five goals and three assists, directly contributing to eight goals.

His return gives Al-Riyadh an experienced attacking midfielder who already understands the demands of Saudi football and has previously performed for the club.

Mensah’s career has also taken him through several major European clubs. He began his professional journey with Portuguese side Vitória Guimarães before making a move to Atlético Madrid. He later played for Getafe, Kasımpaşa, Kayserispor and Beşiktaş, where he won the Turkish league and cup double in 2021.

He moved to Saudi Arabia in 2023, joining Al-Tai before switching to Al-Riyadh in August 2024.

Reunion with Trézéguet

Mensah’s arrival also means he will link up with Egyptian star Mahmoud Hassan Trézéguet, who recently joined Al-Riyadh.

The Ghanaian midfielder is the club’s third signing of the current summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Uruguayan defender Rodrigo Abascal and Trézéguet.

Al-Riyadh are preparing for the opening game of the new Saudi Pro League season, with the club scheduled to face Al-Ettifaq on Friday, August 14.

Mensah’s experience, creativity and familiarity with the club could make him an important part of Al-Riyadh’s plans as they begin their new campaign.

For the former Black Stars player, the move represents an opportunity to reignite his career in Saudi Arabia and build on the positive impact he made during his first spell with the club.
